Managing Negativity-Caused Stress in the Workplace!

Stress from Within, Stress from Without: We all know that difficult relationships (sometimes between co-workers, other times between employees and customers) can engender much stress and inefficiency in the workplace. In this type of workshop, David teaches individuals and groups how to defuse and avoid stress, by using focus, breathing, and “mindfulness” techniques that have been used successfully for literally thousands of years! These are the same methods used to teach what many call “Emotional Intelligence,” or “EQ.” Here’s how he does it — in five easy steps, and as always, in the most user-friendly way imaginable!

1) FUN! Great Harmonica Exercise: FUN!
David teaches the group specific harmonica exercises — whether solo, in duets, or larger groups — that are really metaphors for crucial psychological skills. Since it’s so much fun, everyone participates — even the “HR Resistant” types!
2) Generalizing from Harmonica Skills to PSYCHOLOGICAL TOOLS
After learning some attention-focus strategies based on the harmonica playing, the group practices stress management strategies based on the re-focusing of attention to the breath during stressful situations.
3) PRACTICE in Simulated Situations...
With Harmonica
The group then pratices the exercise — first with harmonica — in simulated real life situations. For example, two people who have already bonded by playing duets on the harmonica will form a “Difficult Person/Stressee Duet.” The “Difficult Person” attempts to stress out the “Stressee” by criticizing or complaining while the “Stressee” practices the breathing focus exercise learned in #2 above.
4) EXTRAPOLATE to NON - Harmonica Simulations
David now teaches the group how to implement the same stress management strategy without the harmonica. The group now practices the exercise in a simulation that is closer to workplace or actual usage. For example, in a customer service rep training, the “Stressee” might ask the “Difficult Person” to role-play an angry customer on a service call, while the “Stressee” practices the non-harmonica stress management strategy.

5) TAKE HOME VALUE — Real Life Use!
Each step of the process is accomplished in the most entertaining and user-friendly way imaginable. All of the participants are actually able to feel what it is like to use the information or techniques — not just to hear about them...
